About the hospital
Peking University People's Hospital is a general hospital in Beijing. It opened on 27 January 1918 as Central Hospital and is described as the first Western-medicine general hospital founded and funded by Chinese people. After several name changes, it took its current name in 2000, when Beijing Medical University merged into Peking University. Today it is a Grade 3A comprehensive hospital that combines patient care, teaching and research. It hosts the National Trauma Medical Center, one of China's national medical centres, and in 2019 it was recognised as the National Clinical Research Center for Hematologic Disease.
