About the hospital

Fuwai Hospital, part of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, is a specialist cardiovascular hospital in Beijing. It was founded in 1956 from a People's Liberation Army sanatorium and was first known as the Chest Hospital of the People's Liberation Army. In 1958 it was transferred to the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and became Fuchengmenwai Hospital, the origin of the name Fuwai. It is the host of the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, one of China's national medical centres. It also hosts the National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and the State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, and it is a Grade 3A hospital.
